Sorry

So this is my apology. I have been focusing on another aspect of my life that has required a bunch of my free time. As soon as I have accomplished some goals I will start posting with a vengeance. Until then accept this kiss as an apology.

Sunlight

So warm so inviting so needed. Winter I do love and enjoy, but I could seriously use this asap.

Chicago

I’ve never lived within your borders, but so many memories are within those borders!

Stuffed Giraffe

So I sit tucked in a corner of the game room neatly propped on a tattered stool with some vintage ornaments, old books, and hand made christmas trees. We have all been brought together by a creative owner and her husband (who just adores her). Anyways, she has been so busy the last couple of days. Trips to the attic, moving funiture, and the music just a blaring all in prep of what showed up last night. The Tree. In what seemed like seconds, strings of lights cracked like whips, storage wrapping flew through the house like flocks of geese heading south, and just like that the room turned magical. Trinket villages, ornaments, stars, sleds, skates, and stockings all in place. Christmas time, can ya feel it?

DIY *grin*

It was a good Saturday morning.  I was awake well before the rest of my family so I decided… hey today would be a good day to change the oil on my van.  I enjoy doing my own projects, but it has been 10 years or so since I’ve done this project, causing me to be proud of my accomplishments and cost saving. That’s (see picture) my oil plug.  Up walks my neighbor, also a do it yourself kinda guy…

neighbor: whatcha doin?

me (with a big grin): Changing my oil

neighbor: That’s all?

Wandering down the street, I walk up to the site that made him say “That’s all?”  His work van, which he calls ‘grandpa’, needed a newer trans and engine… so, he did it ~himself~ in his driveway.  Lesson learned…Take pride in what you do, but make it short lived cause your neighbor is doing more.

Wedding Day

Sometimes as a photographer I see a moment that causes reflection; today I share this one with you.  As wonderful as weddings get, this one will be remembered forever.  With that being said, when I ponder weddings verses wedded life it always amazes me how short of a time period we spend on our weddings.  What I liked about this capture in time is that while the photographer is capturing close ups of wedding day bliss a panoramic landscape unfolds behind them.  Faint paths scar the terrain signifying decisions made by others that this couple also will face.  Going over hills, ups and downs will be encountered that with a joined love they will be enjoyed and endured.  More than anything what I enjoy about this picture is that amidst all of the commotion a shadow falls upon the terrain cast by that moment shared by a couple so in love that nothing can stop them.

Urban Exploration

So I am privileged in my line of work to visit hundreds of buildings a year, and I’ve been doing this for quite a while. Living and working in the Chicago metro area you could imagine a small portion of what I’ve seen. On a few occasions I… lets say “bring my work home with me” or at least the enthusiasm of the things I’ve seen. Well on a very rare occasion I bring others to the enthusiasm. When walking in I feel in the presence of history. Stepping in the footprints of depression workers, union bosses, struggling fathers, and some good graffiti artist. So now my footprints have been added to the plethora of historical others, but the difference with me is I bring something out. In my camera I carry out pictures that will stand in time as the building rusts into the ground. So with every step I bring you these.

IL Old State Capitol

So I had a field trip with my oldest daughter had a blast. I definitely learned more than when I was in fifth grade. These are a few shots from the old state capitol. I know nothing that really that looks state capitol specific, but if you want those enjoy your trip.

Sometimes It Snaps Right

I like those times when you just shoot random, and a beautiful thing happens. So to all those in view of my glass … Thanks!

Helping Hand

It’s a special thing to see people helping each other through life. It may be a coworker frantically hitting the open button on an already crowded elevator, a bellman hailing a cab in the rain for a paying guest, or the elderly gent opening a car door for his lady. It amazes me, whether getting payed or not, how often this occurrence goes unnoticed - proving that chivalry isn’t dead. If you think about it, is this a thought process or are we just created this way? Either way, on a windy day, this one is sweet!
